Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Scientific Manager and Principal Investigator of the Applied Research and Innovation Office, the Research Associate is responsible for assisting with the execution of applied research projects focused on developing and optimizing clean technologies within the Centre for Natural Products and Medical Cannabis. In doing so, the Research Associate works directly with management, other laboratory staff, industry clients, faculty researchers, partners and students.
Duties and Responsibilities
During the project planning stages, the Research Associate works with other team members to collaboratively design experiments and develop research project plans. During the research project the Research Associate will be involved in conducting literature reviews and executing agreed-upon lab activities including: method development, formulation and product development activities, sample preparation, extraction, and gathering and analyzing data. They will contribute to report preparation and review, and will participate in project evaluation. In addition, the Research Associate may have responsibilities for projects involving aspects of research scale cultivation, micropropagation and applications of molecular biology. This will involve strict adherence to relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety and security rules and regulations, maintaining a clean work space (including cleaning lab dishes), monitoring lab inventory and supplies, and other lab duties as directed. The Research Associate is expected to actively participate in scientific discussions regarding the design and execution of research projects, brainstorming solutions and ideas. They will develop and contribute to lab documentation, including documenting processes, guidelines, SOPs and reports and utilization of applied statistical and product tracking software programs. The Research Associate will maintain detailed and organized notebooks of project data and other materials as needed in ARC designated systems and will participate in preventative and routine maintenance of instrumentation.
Knowledge and Skills
• Experience with aseptic technique in laminar flow and bio-containment hoods
• Experience with GMP, GPP or other regulated work environment would be an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in extraction and analytical instrumentation, method
validation, formulation and product development (with focus on natural products and cannabis)
• Experience with process documentation and reporting; experience with statistical and product
tracking software would be an asset

principles and new knowledge
Education Required
Under-graduate degree in biosciences discipline, preferably biotechnology or applied chemistry
