Job Description:
The Land Between is seeking an experienced and community-minded Ecological Sustainability and Outreach Coordinator to lead and support critical components of a large-scale regional conservation strategy. This role centers on fostering Indigenous and local partnerships, coordinating community science initiatives, delivering impactful environmental education, and spearheading habitat restoration projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous Nations, harvesters, naturalists, and community members to promote ecological sustainability and stewardship in the unique landscapes of The Land Between.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conservation Strategy Coordination and Indigenous Partnership Engagement
Lead the development and facilitation of collaborative “talking circles” and convenings that bring together Indigenous Nations, harvesters, naturalists, and other knowledge holders to shape conservation priorities and strategies.
Ensure Indigenous voices and traditional ecological knowledge are integrated respectfully and meaningfully into conservation planning and decision-making.
Coordinate multi-stakeholder dialogues aimed at aligning conservation goals with cultural values and sustainable land use practices.
2. Community Science Program Development and Coordination
Design and manage community science projects that engage local residents, volunteers, and partners in monitoring species at risk, disappearing common species, and ecosystem health indicators.
Provide training, tools, and ongoing support to citizen scientists to ensure data quality and participant retention.
Compile, analyze, and communicate community-collected data to inform conservation efforts and policy recommendations.
3. Environmental Education and Outreach
Develop and deliver dynamic educational workshops, school curriculums, and public outreach events that foster ecological literacy and stewardship across diverse audiences.
Collaborate with educators, Indigenous knowledge keepers, and community leaders to create culturally relevant and science-based learning materials.
Utilize innovative methods and platforms to expand outreach and deepen community engagement in sustainability efforts.
4. Restoration Planning and Leadership
Identify and prioritize ecological restoration opportunities within lakes, wetlands, forests, and other critical habitats in collaboration with partners and Indigenous communities.
Lead on-the-ground restoration initiatives, including habitat enhancement, invasive species management, and natural regeneration projects.
Coordinate volunteers, contractors, and partners to implement restoration plans effectively and safely.
Monitor and report on restoration outcomes to ensure continual improvement and accountability.

• Identify and prioritize restoration opportunities within lakes, wetlands, forests, and other critical habitats.
• Design, coordinate, and promote community science projects that engage local residents, volunteers, and partners in ecological monitoring and data collection.
• Design and deliver, in partnership with the staff team, an outreach and education strategy that revolves around social media, hands-on engagement and e-learning.
• Develop and deliver educational programming and outreach materials for diverse audiences, including schools, community groups, and public events, fostering ecological literacy and stewardship.
• Collaborate with Indigenous partners and conservation organizations to ensure culturally respectful, inclusive, and effective conservation and outreach efforts.
• Track project progress, collect and analyze data, and prepare reports for funders, stakeholders, and internal use.
• Support grant writing, funding proposals, and partnership development to sustain and grow conservation and education initiatives.
• Represent The Land Between at workshops, conferences, and community meetings to share knowledge and build relationships.
• Stay informed of relevant environmental policies, scientific research, and best practices in restoration and community engagement.

Familiarity with ecological monitoring techniques, biodiversity assessment, and ecosystem health indicators.
2. Indigenous Knowledge and Partnership Building:
Knowledge of Indigenous histories relevant to The Land Between region.
